This flag was adopted on July 25, 1952. The colors of the flag are red, white and blue. The flag was designed in1895. The designer is Dr. Ram?n Emeterio Betances. The design has three red stripes that represent the blood from their brave warriors. The two white stripes represent the victory and the peace they were going to have after gaining independence. The white star represents the island of Puerto Rico. The blue also represents the sky and blue coastal waters of Puerto Rico. All outdoor flags are finished with heading and brass grommets (H&G). PH denotes pole hem for indoor and parade use. PHF denotes pole hem and gold fringe.
