This flag was adopted on December 17, 1981. The colors of the flag are blue, gold, white, green, brown, orange, grey, pink, black and gold fringe. The flag was designed in1898. The designer is Colonel Kessler. The design shows some of Montana’s beautiful scenery and tells what the people were doing in pioneer times. The pick, the shovel and the plow represent mining and farming. In the background a sun rises over snow capped mountains, over forests and over the Great Falls of the Missouri river. A ribbon contains the state motto-Gold and Silver. All outdoor flags are finished with heading and brass grommets (H&G). PH denotes pole hem for indoor and parade use. PHF denotes pole hem and gold fringe.
