This flag was adopted on November 22, 2010. The colors of the flag are white, gold, black, red and blue. The flag was designed in1912. The designer is unknown. The design displays the state bird, the Eastern Brown Pelican, in white and gold, on a field of blue. The mother pelican is represented as tearing flesh from her own body to feed her three young. Louisiana’s motto-UNION, JUSTICE & CONFIDENCE-is printed in blue letters on a white and gold banner below the pelicans. One of the state’s nicknames is The Pelican State. All outdoor flags are finished with heading and brass grommets (H&G). PH denotes pole hem for indoor and parade use. PHF denotes pole hem and gold fringe.
