This flag was adopted on December 29, 1845. The colors of the flag are red, white and blue. The flag was designed in1817. The designer is an officer of the Royal Navy. The design has eight stripes of white, red and blue that represent the eight main islands. The flag of Great Britain is in the upper left corner to honor Hawaii’s friendship with the British. All outdoor flags are finished with heading and brass grommets (H&G). PH denotes pole hem for indoor and parade use. PHF denotes pole hem and gold fringe.
